Whitney Byrd Headshot.jpg

Whitney Byrd

Whitney is a junior at Point Loma Nazarene University majoring in Writing. Born and raised in Denver, CO, she came to San Diego for sun, sand, and school. In her three years of college, she’s discovered, a degree in Writing is going to provide her with skills that can be used in a variety of careers.

At Point Loma Nazarene, Whitney has worked as an Admissions Ambassador since her Freshman year. She works alongside the Admissions staff of PLNU as a tour guide, host of prospective students, front desk worker, and much more. Whitney has also served as a leader in Discipleship Ministries on campus since Sophomore year, helping students grow in their faith and community.

In the Spring semester of her Sophomore year, Whitney studied abroad in Florence, Italy. It was during her semester abroad, when her interest in Public Relations was peaked. In Public Relations Strategies, one of the projects assigned to the students was to help boost a local company’s PR. Whitney and a small group of students worked on a small, English speaking theater company’s public relations by creating a new press kit, maintained social media for the upcoming show, and wrote press releases for the event. In addition to the end of the year project, students wrote short press releases for local events happening within the city of Florence for a magazine called Firenze Spectaculo and also worked on social media and press releases for events through Florence University of the Arts.

During the fall of her Junior year, Whitney was introduced to Focuscom by a professor and has since learned where her Writing career can take her: into the world of public relations and public affairs. She looks forward to seeing what doors this internship will open and the experience she will gain from it.
